OSTEOPATHY

Osteopathy is a holistic treatment method that focuses on diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal problems and their impact on the body’s function and health. It is a manual therapy, where the therapist uses their hands to examine and treat the body. Osteopaths look at the connection between muscles, joints, connective tissue, the nervous system, and internal organs to promote the body's natural ability to heal itself.

Principles of Osteopathy

  1. The body as a whole: All parts of the body are interconnected and affect each other. An imbalance in one part can influence other areas.

  2. Self-healing: The body has a natural ability to restore balance and heal itself when the conditions are right.

  3. Structure and function: There is a close relationship between the body’s structure (bones, muscles, joints, connective tissue) and its function (movement, circulation, nerve activity).

What do osteopaths treat?

Osteopathy can help with a variety of issues, including:

  • Back and neck pain: Common musculoskeletal problems such as lumbago or neck stiffness.

  • Joint problems: Shoulder, hip, knee, and other joint issues.

  • Headaches and migraines: Often related to tension in the neck and jaw.

  • Sports injuries: Muscle injuries, sprains, and overuse.

  • Digestive issues: Which can be related to tension in connective tissue.

  • Stress-related issues: Muscle tension, sleep problems, and fatigue.

How does osteopathic treatment work?

  1. Assessment and diagnosis:

    • A thorough conversation about the patient’s health, lifestyle, and symptoms.

    • Physical examinations of the body’s movement and structure.

  2. Treatment:

    • Manipulation: Joint adjustments to improve movement and reduce pain.

    • Stretching: To release tension in muscles and connective tissue.

    • Soft tissue techniques: Massage and pressure to loosen tissue and stimulate blood circulation.

    • Mobilization: Gentle movements to improve flexibility and reduce stiffness.

  3. Prevention and advice:

    • Guidance on posture, mobility, and lifestyle to reduce the risk of relapse.

Osteopathy takes a holistic approach and often treats the entire body to address the root cause of the problems. Osteopathy is a non-invasive (painless) and gentle treatment method suitable for a wide range of conditions.
